Canadian-born pianist Marc-André Hamelin is a one of the leading performing and recording artists of our time. His discography for the English label Hyperion comprises a rich trove of familiar and obscure classical repertoire, much of it considered too difficult for the average player. On tonight's event he departs from his usual fare and enters the twilight zone of Other Minds by presenting a hypnotic 40-minute work by Morton Feldman. For Bunita Marcus (1985) will be performed on a beautifully-restored 1895 Steinway grand piano, and Mr. Hamelin will conclude with one or two of his most cherished 19th Century virtuosic bonbons. Mr. Hamelin will speak about his work in a short discussion with Other Minds Artistic Director Charles Amirkhanian.
