Robert Hughes, composer and author, is a graduate of the University of Buffalo (now SUNY Buffalo) and composition student of Aaron Copland, Carlos, Chavez, Luigi Dallapiccola, and Lou Harrison. He has written for symphony orchestra, chamber ensemble, voices, performance art events and a wide variety of media, including twenty film scores and a large body of electronic music. His compositions include commissions from the San Francisco Symphony, Cabrillo Music Festival, Oakland Symphony, Arch Ensemble for Experimental Music, Department of the Interior, Houghton-Mifflin, and Walt Disney.
1. Music for the Kama Sutra
for contrabassoon, flute, trombone, violin, cello, piri, cheng and percussion. Conducted by Gerhard Samuel, with the composer on contrabassoon. Commissioned by the San Francisco Ballet.
2. Cones
for orchestra and electronic tape. Conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. Commissioned by the Oakland Ballet.
3. Cadences
for large orchestra, two conductors, multi soloists and electronic tape. Conducted by Robert Hughes and Denis de Coteau. Originally issued as 1750 Arch Records S1772 and remastered.
4. Quadroquartet
for four flutes, 4 French horns, 4 contrabasses and 4 electronic tracks. Conducted by the composer.
